Uzbekistan culture sector to receive expanded tax incentives

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Organizations and entrepreneurs operating in Uzbekistan’s culture and arts sector will be exempt from a range of taxes, according to measures announced during a meeting between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and representatives of the creative community.

The exemptions will cover value-added tax, profit tax, turnover tax, as well as land, property and personal income taxes for organizations engaged in concert and entertainment activities, private theatres, cinematography, children’s content production and private educational institutions in the field of culture and arts.

It was also stated that sponsorship funds directed by businesses and large companies toward the development of literature, culture and the arts will not be subject to taxation.

From 1 July, up to 20% of expenses on concerts and cultural events in regions and mahallas will be compensated from the state budget.

Separate directorates will be established under regional khokimiyats to improve the use of concert halls, theatres and cultural palaces, and to ensure regular cultural programming.

In addition, 500,000 representatives of selected social groups, including teachers, doctors, public sector employees, school pupils and students, as well as 100,000 low-income families and children with disabilities, will receive free vouchers for theatres, cinemas and concerts.
