Uzbekistan becomes first country to align laws with new WADA code

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has become the first and so far only country in the world to prepare its national legislation in line with the requirements of the new World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code, which will come into force next year.

The announcement was made during the 21st Intergovernmental Meeting of Ministers for Combating Doping in Sport in the Asia-Pacific region, held in Beijing, where Uzbekistan was represented by Minister of Sports Adham Ikramov.

Participants at the forum highlighted the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan in the field of anti-doping efforts and the improvement of the national anti-doping system.

WADA President Witold Bańka praised Uzbekistan’s progress in this area. He noted that in February and March of this year, the country successfully confirmed its compliance with international requirements under a formal compliance procedure.

During the conference, the Uzbek delegation presented its ongoing work on strengthening anti-doping policy, implementing international standards, and further developing the national system to combat doping in sport.

Officials said the measures have enabled Uzbekistan to become the first country to fully align its legal and regulatory framework with the requirements of the new WADA code.
