Uzbekistan and Germany sign agreements for climate-resilient economy projects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 16 September 2024, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) signed agreements for the implementation of two projects aimed at supporting a climate-resilient economy.

The agreements were signed by Minister of Ecology Aziz Abdukhakimov and Joachim Fritz, Head of the GIZ Representation in Uzbekistan, during a bilateral meeting in Samarkand.

The first project, titled “Political Dialogue and Knowledge Management on Climate Protection Strategies” (DIAPOL-CE), will be implemented from February 2024 to June 2025.

This project aims to develop long-term strategies for transitioning to an environmentally safe economy. Planned activities include analyzing climate risks to the Sudoche Lake system and developing a strategy for managing wetlands and promoting eco-tourism.

The second agreement pertains to the “Green Central Asia Phase II” project, which will strengthen transboundary climate change cooperation in the region.

The primary objective of this project is to implement a climate adaptation and mitigation program agreed upon by all countries in the region.
