Uzbekistan President Arrives in Russia for Victory Day Events

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Moscow on 8 May on a working visit, the presidential press service reported.

At Vnukovo International Airport, the head of state was welcomed by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and other officials.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev will take part in commemorative events dedicated to the 81st anniversary of Victory in World War II.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will attend Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said.

He stated that the leaders of the two countries would arrive in the Russian capital to participate in the May 9 events, noting that the heads of “two close states” had confirmed their attendance.

Yuri Ushakov also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting on the day of arrival with Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko during a friendly lunch. Bilateral talks are also scheduled.

On May 9, the leaders will jointly attend the military parade on Red Square. They will also visit the ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and other commemorative events.
