PSG Defend Champions League Title After Beating Arsenal
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Paris Saint-Germain have won the UEFA Champions League after defeating Arsenal in the final, which was decided by a penalty shootout. The French club successfully defended their title, becoming one of the few teams in the tournament’s history to win Europe’s top club competition in consecutive seasons.
The final was played in a highly competitive atmosphere. Arsenal opened the scoring in the fifth minute, when Kai Havertz completed a quick attack to beat goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.
PSG equalised through a penalty converted by Ousmane Dembélé, who sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to level the score.
Both teams created several dangerous chances in the second half and during the closing stages of normal time. Notable efforts came from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola and Vitinha, but none were converted into goals.
The winner was decided in a penalty shootout, where PSG prevailed 4–3.
For PSG head coach Luis Enrique, the title marks the third UEFA Champions League triumph of his managerial career.
Special attention during the match was given to the performance of Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, who featured in the final and became the first Russian to start in a Champions League final.
