Uzbekistan launches major energy projects with AMEA Power
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has officially launched the implementation of several large-scale energy projects in cooperation with AMEA Power of the United Arab Emirates. The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan confirmed that the launch took place on May 13 as part of “Uzbekistan Energy Week 2026.”
In Tashkent’s Mirzo-Ulugbek district, construction has begun on an energy storage system with a capacity of 150 MW (300 MWh). The project is valued at US$86.1 million.
At the same time, another energy storage facility with a capacity of 200 MW (800 MWh) is planned in the Gijduvan district of the Bukhara region. The total investment in this project amounts to US$200 million.
A separate line of cooperation includes the construction of a 1,000 MW wind power plant in the Kungirot district of Karakalpakstan, along with a 40-kilometer transmission line. The project is valued at US$1.06 billion.
The Ministry of Energy stated that these initiatives are aimed at strengthening the country’s energy infrastructure, expanding the use of renewable energy sources, and improving the stability of electricity supply.
In a broader policy context, Uzbekistan is also considering long-term transformation of the energy sector, including the development of a wholesale electricity market, the introduction of RAB tariffs, and the involvement of private operators in grid management.
