Tashkent to Host Second Termez Dialogue
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The second meeting of the Termez Dialogue on connectivity between Central and South Asia will be held in Tashkent from June 4 to 6, 2026, under the theme “Peace, Connectivity, Sustainability: Building the Foundation for Shared Prosperity.”
The Termez Dialogue was established in 2025 as a permanent international platform aimed at promoting the practical implementation of the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to strengthen connectivity between Central and South Asia. The initiative has received broad international support and was endorsed by a special resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on July 11, 2022.
The event is organized by the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, in partnership with the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
More than 150 representatives of political, business, and expert communities, as well as international and regional organizations from Central and South Asia, Europe, the CIS, the South Caucasus, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, and the Americas are expected to participate. This highlights the inclusive and open nature of the Termez Dialogue as a broad international platform for developing joint approaches to strengthening connectivity, trust, and sustainable development across the Eurasian space.
Among the partners and participants are the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, as well as leading think tanks, research institutions, and peacebuilding organizations, including the International Water Management Institute, the Center for Progressive Reforms, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Berghof Foundation, PeaceNexus, Search for Common Ground, Georgetown University, and others.
The program of the forum includes a high-level plenary session titled “Political Dialogue and Economic Connectivity as Pillars of Sustainable Development in the CICA Region,” as well as two thematic sessions dedicated to joint adaptation to climate change and environmental sustainability, and to strengthening cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
The event will also feature expert and academic discussions and side events focused on regional security issues, expanded engagement with Afghanistan, including the development of dialogue along the Afghanistan–Uzbekistan–Pakistan track, strengthening transport and logistics connectivity, building regional trust, and advancing a shared sustainable development agenda.
Special attention will be given to regional identity in Central Asia and the expansion of youth cooperation in peacebuilding and sustainable development.
The program also includes field visits. Participants are scheduled to visit Termez to explore modern trade and logistics infrastructure linking Central and South Asia, including the “Ayritom” International Trade Center and the Termez Cargo Center logistics hub, as well as the cultural and historical heritage of the ancient city.
The third day of the dialogue will take place in Samarkand, where delegates will explore the heritage of the Samarkand Renaissance, historically serving as a bridge between East and West, North and South.
A communiqué is expected to be adopted at the end of the session, reinforcing the commitment to strengthening trust, developing constructive cooperation, and promoting sustainable connectivity between Central and South Asia.
