Mirziyoyev Proposes New Initiatives Within EAEU
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a regular meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana on May 29 in his capacity as the head of an observer state. During the summit, the Uzbek leader proposed a number of initiatives aimed at developing digital trade, industrial cooperation, transport connectivity and organized labor mobility with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
The meeting was chaired by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Leaders of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Russia, as well as representatives of Armenia, Cuba, Iran, the Eurasian Economic Commission and the CIS, also attended the meeting.
The agenda included issues related to expanding multilateral trade and economic cooperation, supporting industrial cooperation and implementing joint programs in priority areas of interaction.
In his speech, the President of Uzbekistan said that developing mutually beneficial cooperation with EAEU member states remains one of the key priorities of the country’s foreign economic policy. According to him, cooperation with the union’s countries has evolved into a comprehensive economic partnership.
The Uzbek leader highlighted steady growth in mutual trade, expanding industrial cooperation and strengthening logistics ties. He also pointed to new areas of cooperation in the digital economy, energy and services sectors.
Mirziyoyev said that, together with the Eurasian Economic Commission, Uzbekistan is finalizing the implementation of a three-year action plan. In this regard, Uzbekistan proposed adopting a new plan during the next meeting of the joint Working Group, scheduled to take place in Tashkent this autumn.
Digitalization of economic cooperation received particular attention. Mirziyoyev advocated the creation of a unified digital space for barrier-free trade between Uzbekistan and EAEU countries. In particular, he referred to harmonizing approaches to e-commerce regulation, digital data exchange in customs, phytosanitary and veterinary areas, as well as the phased recognition of electronic documents.
The President also proposed launching “smart” transport and customs corridors through the introduction of digital transit systems and modernization of border checkpoints.
Mirziyoyev noted that the INNOPROM Central Asia international industrial exhibition, held in Tashkent in April, demonstrated strong business interest in production localization and technological partnerships. He proposed using the platform’s potential to prepare an industrial cooperation program between Uzbekistan and EAEU countries.
Among the promising areas of cooperation, he named industrial automation, robotics, production of energy components, water-saving technologies and modern construction materials.
The President of Uzbekistan also expressed readiness to establish a joint Project Cooperation Office in the country, which, together with the Eurasian Economic Commission, would support new initiatives and facilitate financing for projects based in free industrial zones.
Another major topic of the speech was the green transformation of industry. Mirziyoyev proposed developing a joint program aimed at improving energy efficiency, introducing clean technologies and reducing the carbon intensity of production. According to him, the program could include joint green projects, new financial instruments and industrial modernization using artificial intelligence technologies.
In the area of labor mobility, the President proposed taking cooperation to a new level through the integration of national electronic employment services. The initiative envisions the creation of a unified digital environment providing citizens with access to verified vacancies and information on labor legislation.
Mirziyoyev also recalled the “Central Asia Tourism Ring” initiative and invited EAEU countries to join efforts to promote the route on digital platforms.
In conclusion, the President of Uzbekistan stressed that the country’s participation in multilateral EAEU programs and projects would contribute to strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships and ensuring sustainable development across the region.
