Uzbekistan Warns Retail Chains Against Price Hikes Ahead of Holiday

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights of Uzbekistan has warned major retail chains and shopping complexes to ensure price stability during the upcoming Kurban Hayit holiday period.

The agency noted that demand for socially important food products traditionally increases ahead of the holiday. In this regard, retail networks and commercial complexes across the country have been advised to take measures to prevent unjustified price increases.

In particular, the committee called on market participants to promptly inform the authority about any factors that could affect retail price changes, including rising logistics and other operational costs.

Retail chains were also instructed to notify suppliers about the inadmissibility of unjustified price increases on goods.

The committee stated that it continues to take measures within its mandate to ensure price stability for socially significant food products across the country.
