Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation led by Akmalhoja Mavlonov, Chairman of the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, is on a working visit to the United States, holding a series of talks aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the customs sphere.

As part of the visit, meetings were held with representatives of the U.S. Department of State, the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), the Export Control and Border Security (EXBS) program, as well as with the leadership of the National Nuclear Security Administration of the U.S. Department of Energy.

During the talks, the sides discussed risk analysis, combating drug trafficking and smuggling, ensuring radiation safety, detecting drug-related crimes committed via the internet, and strengthening operational information exchange.

Special attention was given to equipping customs checkpoints with modern technical systems and developing border control infrastructure.

It was noted that in recent years, within the framework of bilateral cooperation, hundreds of Uzbek customs officers have undergone professional training. Border checkpoints have been equipped with modern inspection, screening and radiation control systems, which has improved the detection of narcotics and hazardous cargo.

Following the talks, the sides reached agreements to further expand cooperation and implement joint projects.
