Smuggling Attempt of Medicines Foiled in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An attempt to illegally import a large shipment of medicines concealed among food products has been prevented in Tashkent region.

The operation was carried out jointly by servicemen of the Border Troops of the State Security Service and customs officers.

During the customs inspection of a cargo vehicle arriving from Kazakhstan via the “S. Nadzimov” customs post in Kibray district, it was discovered that medical devices and pharmaceutical products were hidden among food items in a truck driven by a 1973-born citizen from the Altyaryk district of Ferghana region.

A total of 52 types of medical devices and medicines amounting to 95,369 units were identified.

As part of further operational measures, a resident of Tashkent district born in 1986 was also detained while receiving the cargo.

The total estimated value of the seized medical goods is 1.323 billion soums.

A criminal case has been initiated, and investigative actions are ongoing.
