New cargo terminal opens at Tashkent Airport
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A new cargo terminal has been launched at Tashkent Airport, with the capacity to handle up to 120,000 tons of cargo per year. Covering an area of 5.2 hectares, the facility includes a modern three-story administrative building, a spacious warehouse for storing various types of cargo, and a convenient parking area designed for both passenger and cargo vehicles.
The warehouse facilities span 8,500 square meters, with 500 square meters allocated to cold storage and freezing chambers for goods requiring specific temperature conditions. The terminal is equipped with specialized storage zones for plants, live animals, valuable cargo, food products, and medical supplies. All storage areas feature thermal sensors, enabling automatic maintenance of optimal temperature levels.
According to Uzbekistan Airports Cargo, the construction of the new terminal was necessitated by the outdated infrastructure of the previous cargo complex, which was built between 1994 and 2000. Previously, the airport had around 20 small- and medium-sized warehouses and administrative buildings covering a total area of 3 hectares, with a capacity of only 30,000 tons per year. However, in 2024, the volume of processed cargo and mail reached 80,000 tons, exceeding the old terminal’s capabilities. Additionally, administrative and rental facilities required modernization. Consequently, a decision was made to upgrade the infrastructure, and the transition to operations in the new terminal has now begun in phases.
To enhance efficiency and processing speed, the terminal is equipped with state-of-the-art systems from leading global manufacturers. Racking systems, lifting and transport mechanisms, packaging equipment, and automated security and tracking systems have been installed, significantly accelerating service delivery and ensuring that airlines receive high-quality service in line with international standards.
Additionally, a new three-story administrative building of 3,000 square meters has been constructed within the terminal complex. It will accommodate employees of UzCargo, representatives of customs services, veterinary and phytosanitary control, as well as importers, exporters, airlines, and customs brokers. The first-floor operational hall features an electronic queue system for cargo recipients, while offices are located on the second and third floors. A spacious parking lot has been provided for the convenience of both clients and employees.
