GECF: Global Gas Demand Expected to Rise up to 26%
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Global demand for natural gas is expected to increase over the next 30 years, rising from current levels to a range of 23% to 26%, according to the Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), Philip Mshelbila.
Commenting on long-term energy trends, Mshelbila said Uzbekistan accounts for more than 36% of regional gas demand and will continue to play a significant role in Central Asia’s energy system.
He noted that the country will remain not only a major consumer but also an important transit hub through which gas flows will move within the region and toward key demand centers.
The expert stressed that, given the expected rise in consumption, Uzbekistan needs to simultaneously expand its domestic production and modernize its gas infrastructure.
He also emphasized the importance of changes in the global energy balance, where the role of renewable energy sources and nuclear power generation is increasing.
