Uzbekistan to open embassy in Oman this year
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Sayyid Badr Bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Secretary-General at the Foreign Ministry and Head of the Omani side in the Omani-Uzbek Joint Committee, on Tuesday met Abdulaziz Kamilov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, in the Uzbek capital Tashkent.

He also met Elyor Ganiyev, Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade and Chairman of the Uzbek side, Oman News Agency reported.

Issues related to enhancing political and economic cooperation between the two sides were discussed at the meetings.

Badr Busaidi stressed the importance of the need to develop cooperation with Uzbekistan. He said having an embassy of the Sultanate in Tashkent will contribute to boosting cooperation between the two countries.

Kamilov said the delegation’s visit to Uzbekistan reflects Omani desire to develop bilateral cooperation. He said Uzbekistan will open an embassy in the Sultanate this year to boost cooperation and provide all facilities to public and private sector organisations in both countries.

Badr Busaidi said the Sultanate seeks to set up joint trade and infrastructure ventures. He described the political relationship between the two countries as “distinguished and witnessing constant growth” and the points of views on international issues were “identical”.

Ganiyev highlighted the business opportunities for the Omani private and public sector in Uzbekistan.

The meetings were also attended by HE Khalil Bin Abdullah Al Khonji, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abdul Salam Bin Mohammed Al Murshadi, CEO of the State Reserve Fund and CEO of the Omani Investment Fund, and HE Mohammed Bin Said Al Lawati, Sultanate’s accredited Ambassador to Uzbekistan.

The members of the Omani side at the Omani-Uzbek Businessmen Council on Tuesday met their Uzbek counterparts at the World Trade Centre in Tashkent as part of the first round of meetings for the Omani-Uzbek Joint Committee in Uzbekistan.

The Omani side was led by HE Khalil Bin Abdullah Al Khonji, Chairman of OCCI and head of the Omani side at the Council. The Uzbek side was led by the Chairman of the Uzbek Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He said Omani private sector companies and their Uzbek counterparts are keen to set up ventures and businesses in industry, tourism, IT, agricultural services, human resources and utilisation of local resources. He invited the Uzbek side to visit the Sultanate during the meeting of the Omani-Uzbek joint committee next year. The Chairman of the Uzbek Chamber of Commerce and Industry said investments in Uzbekistan are witnessing growth over the past ten years.
