Uzbekistan to change requirements to roads
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Senate Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan will consider a law “On road traffic security” in new edition at its eleventh session, chairperson of the Committee on defense and security of Senate Yulchiboy Tursunov said in his article “Raise responsibility of road traffic participants”.

The article said that automobiles became important element of transport sector. In last ten years, number of automobiles rose 1.5 times in Uzbekistan, which requires expansion of roads and strengthen road safety.

Uzbekistan created legal base to ensure road safety. In particular, the country adopted laws “On automobile transport”, “On city passenger transport”, resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers “On approval of road traffic rules”, “On approval of rules of passenger and luggage transportation by automobile transport and requirements on safety of bus transportation”, etc.

The law “On road traffic security” was adopted in 1999 and it should be updated to meet current requirements.

The eleventh plenary session of the Senate will consider the law “On road traffic security” in new edition. The document was developed to protect life and health of citizens, strengthen their rights and interest, property of legal entities and individuals, as well as society and the government.

The law also introduces new article on main principles of ensuring traffic security, which is based on priority of life and health of citizens and ensuring traffic safety.

The new law introduces new norms, which envisages participation of self-governing bodies and NGOs at measures directed at ensuring traffic security.

One of the important factors for traffic security is road condition. The article said that damaged roads or no roads create conditions for accidents. The new law introduces requirements for road quality.

The document also includes article on construction of service objects at roads and their security. It envisages that information on service objects will be placed at roads.
