Uzbekistan Senate Chief Meets Global Union Leader in Geneva

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan's Senate Speaker has held talks with the head of the world's largest trade union body in Geneva, signaling the country's bid to align its ongoing labor reforms with international worker protection standards.

Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, led the Uzbek delegation in a meeting with Luc Triangle, Secretary-General of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), on the sidelines of engagements in Geneva.

The two sides reviewed prospects for expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the ITUC, covering experience-sharing, joint initiatives, and support for reforms aimed at improving labor relations and raising standards of social protection for the population.

Triangle offered a positive assessment of Uzbekistan's ongoing transformation of its labor legislation, including the broadening of guarantees for workers' rights and the development of social partnership mechanisms — areas where the country has pursued legislative changes as part of its wider governance reform agenda under President Mirziyoyev.

Both parties confirmed their interest in strengthening constructive dialogue and advancing partnership aimed at promoting the principles of decent work and the protection of workers' rights.
