Uzbekistan Proposes Digital Health and Cross-Border Healthcare Cooperation at CIS Interparliamentary Assembly
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The 60th plenary session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in St. Petersburg, with participation of a parliamentary delegation from Uzbekistan.
One of the key agenda items was the discussion of measures being implemented under 2026, declared the Year of Health Protection across the CIS region.
Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva stated in her address that the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly serves as an important platform for developing inter-parliamentary cooperation, harmonizing national legislation, and strengthening parliamentary diplomacy. She emphasized that the focus remains on ensuring public welfare and improving living standards.
It was also noted that healthcare development in Uzbekistan remains a key priority of state policy.
Within the framework of the “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy, the country is gradually modernizing its healthcare system, introducing digital technologies and telemedicine, and strengthening primary healthcare services.
It was further highlighted that Uzbekistan’s chairmanship of the CIS Health Cooperation Council in the current year increases its responsibility in promoting practical initiatives and advancing inter-parliamentary collaboration.
The Uzbek parliamentary delegation presented several proposals aimed at strengthening legal frameworks in the field of cross-border healthcare.
These included the development of model laws, improved prevention of non-communicable diseases, promotion of healthy nutrition and digital health technologies, as well as harmonized approaches in pharmaceuticals, drug registration, and quality control.
Additional proposals focused on expanding cooperation in medical education and professional exchange programs. The Uzbek side emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in forming a legal basis for healthcare development and ensuring effective implementation of adopted decisions.
The session concluded that coordinated legislative initiatives and inter-parliamentary cooperation contribute to the development of healthcare systems and the strengthening of integration processes across the CIS region.
