Tashkent Plans New Metro Line to Chilanzar District
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 15 May, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on additional measures to improve the efficiency of the Tashkent Metro.
According to the approved roadmap for the transformation of the capital’s metro system, the plan includes the introduction of modern management mechanisms, improved passenger safety and train operations, as well as the implementation of new urban transport infrastructure projects.
One of the key initiatives is the construction of a new metro line along the route “Mingurik – Chilanzar wholesale market (Ippodrom)”. At present, project design and feasibility documentation is being prepared.
The project will be implemented in two stages. The first stage includes the construction of a 6.5 km section from Mingurik station to the South Railway Station. The second stage will extend the line from the South Railway Station to the Chilanzar wholesale market, covering an additional 5.5 km.
The government has instructed responsible agencies to complete preliminary and detailed design documentation by the end of the year. The documentation is scheduled to undergo required expert reviews and be submitted for approval to the Cabinet of Ministers by February 2027.
Implementation responsibilities have been assigned to the Tashkent Metro authority, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Tashkent city administration.
The project was previously presented to the President on 13 May as part of broader efforts to expand and modernize the capital’s public transport network.
