Uzbekistan is for rational use of water resources
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Protecting watersheds and ecosystems, sustainable use of water, preventing man-made disasters and mitigation of natural disasters, as well as strengthening institutional framework for cooperation are becoming important issue in light of irreversible global climate change. This was stated by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the UN D. Khakimov.

He participated at interactive dialogue of high level on water cooperation, which was held at the UN General Assembly on Friday.

Aral Sea tragedy became one of the most significant crises, which turn from largest inland water reservoirs to Aralkum, a vast desert in a short period of time, he said.

The Uzbek envoy said that it is necessary to cooperate more closely and search accord among the states of the region on rational use of general water resources, the UN News Center reported.

He said that Uzbekistan is against implementation of projects in Central Asia, which were developed 30-40 years ago, and envisage construction of hydro power stations with large dams. He also underlined that the construction sites are located at seismic zone. He said that all these can damage ecology and became reason for dangerous catastrophe.

Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan said that it would be rationally and less dangerous to construct small hydrop power stations.
