Uzbekistan hosts International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The 47th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad among pupils opened in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on 24 April 2013. The Olympiad will take place from 24 to 30 April.

On 24 April, the Tashkent branch of the Moscow State University named after M.Lomonosov hosted the opening ceremony of the 47th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad.

It was attended by 17 teams from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Russia, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Ukraine, the members of the organizing committee of the Olympiad, the international jury experts, representatives of the diplomatic corps, UzA reported.

The event participants visited the Independence Square and laid flowers to the Monument of Independence and Humanism – a symbol of freedom, bright future and noble aspirations.

The Olympiad consists of three rounds. They are two theoretical and one experimental – practical. It involved 117 young boys and girls – the winners of National Chemistry Olympiad.

The team defending the honor of Uzbekistan, formed according to the result of qualifying rounds held among schoolchildren, students of academic lyceums and professional colleges in the district, city, regional and republican stages.

The winners will have the opportunity to enter the Moscow State University and other prestigious institutions of higher education without examinations.

During independence years, 253 pupils from Uzbekistan participated in the international competitions in various subjects and have won 21 gold, 51 silver and 90 bronze medals, as well as more than 100 degrees.
