Uzbekistan constructs and reconstructs about 500 km roads
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan completed construction and reconstruction about 500 km of modern four-lane automobile roads in 2012, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said at the session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.

The session summed up results of social-economic development of Uzbekistan for 2012 and approved main perspectives of economic programme for 2013.

Islam Karimov underlined that some 163 km of roads are covered with cement concrete pavement and 335 km – asphalt concrete payment.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said that Gulistan-Ahangaran automobile roads with extension of 116 km have been commission. He said that road, which will bypass Qoqand city, was launched. Uzbek leader said that road, which links Samarkand city to Tashkent city and Qarshi and Alat, were reconstructed.

Uzbekistan speeded up work on further developing of railroad transport communication and implements projects on electrification of railroads, which decrease expanses on exploitation of trains by 20% and speed up passenger and cargo transportation by 1.3 times. This will also create opportunity to electrify 830 km of railroads between Tashkent and Termez.

Uzbek President said that 240 km of railroads were rehabilitated in 2012, which increased safety and reliability of railway transportations. Passenger and freight transportation have been launched on Dashtabad-Jizzakh area with extension of 70 km.

Within implementation of investment projects on development and modernization of telecommunication network, Uzbekistan launched optic-fibre line between Baisun and Denau and Urgut-Shahrisabz with extension of 180 km.

In 2013, Uzbekistan plans to construct and reconstruct 526 km of automobile roads, which will meet international standards and complete reconstruction of 71 km of roads at Kamchich pass, construct several bridges and passes. About 1.2 trillion soums will be directed to these projects, of which 870 billion soums will be resource of Republican Road Fund. Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, Arabic Coordination Group will issue about US$120 million.

Uzavtoyol, Republican Road Fund, Councils of Ministers of Karakalpakstan, administrations of regions and Tashkent city were ordered to undertake measures on full implementation of parameters on construction, reconstruction and repair of automobile roads and road infrastructure.
