Uzbekistan and Afghanistan expand pharmaceutical cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan and Afghanistan are continuing to expand cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector as part of broader efforts to strengthen trade, economic and humanitarian ties between the two countries. In 2026, a series of reciprocal visits and business events were held aimed at deepening cooperation between sectoral institutions and the business community.
Earlier, a delegation from Uzbekistan’s Agency for the Development of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry visited Kabul and Mazar-i-Sharif, where it held talks with representatives of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health, regulatory bodies, trade and industry structures, as well as major distributors and business representatives.
During the visit to Afghanistan, business forums and meetings were organized in B2B and B2G formats, focusing on expanding cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector. Key topics included increasing export potential, accelerating drug registration procedures, reducing administrative barriers, and establishing sustainable mechanisms for cooperation between the sides.
These arrangements were followed by a visit to Uzbekistan by a delegation of Afghan healthcare representatives, leading pharmaceutical importers, and business organizations, held from May 12 to 15, 2026.
As part of the visit, on May 13, the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan Business Forum, along with B2B and B2G negotiations, was held at the Tashkent Pharma Park pharmaceutical cluster (BioPharma City). Participants discussed the practical implementation of previously reached agreements, the conclusion of new export contracts, the expansion of direct partnerships, and the promotion of Uzbek pharmaceutical products to the Afghan market.
Particular attention was given to investment and trade cooperation, as well as the implementation of new joint projects in the pharmaceutical sector. An exhibition of Uzbek pharmaceutical products, medical devices, and medical equipment was also organized during the event.
The parties noted that the consistent development of dialogue and the expansion of direct contacts between business communities of the two countries are creating conditions for further growth in pharmaceutical cooperation. They expect the agreements reached to contribute to broader export geography and stronger regional engagement.
