Uzbek-Polish trade-economic relations expand in 2012
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Outgoing 2012 was the year of further expanding cooperation, developing and deepening mutual trade-economic investment contacts for the Uzbek-Polish trade-economic relations, Department of assisting to trade and investments of the Embassy of Poland in Uzbekistan said.

The department said that contacts between ministries and departments, as well as business structures of two states are becoming more regular. It said that the delegations of Poland visited Uzbekistan and the delegations of Uzbekistan paid visit to Poland in 2012.

In the result of the eleven months of 2012, number of mutual visits grew by 36% year-on-year in line with Polish data. Over 100 Polish businesses visited Uzbekistan in 2012 and familiarized with Uzbekistan and its business climate.

Uzbekistan and Poland are developing mutual trade. According to Polish statistics bodies, trade turnover between two states exceeded US$124 million in ten months of 2012, of which US$96 million fell to share of Polish exports (5% growth).

Poland increased exports of textile products, clothes, footwear, food products and others to Uzbekistan. Some 24% of Polish exports to Uzbekistan make up equipment, 19% - animals and animal products, 16% - chemical goods, 13% - vehicles and their part, 10% - ready products.

At the same time, Uzbek supplies to Poland decreased despite expansion of nomenclature of exported goods. Exports of chemical products from Uzbekistan to Poland decreased twice, exports of yarn and textile products by 25%, and mineral products – by 15%. At the same time, Uzbekistan expanded exports of measuring devices, plant products and some other goods. About 53% of overall exports of Uzbekistan to Poland make up mineral products, 20% - chemical goods, 18% yarn and cotton products.

The department said that the sides have significant potential to expand nomenclature of goods in mutual trade, which can positively impact to mutual trade between two states.

The department added that it is planned to implement joint projects and programmes in 2013 and organize various events in trade-economic and investment cooperation.

The department said that it will participate in various exhibitions in Uzbekistan to represent businesses of Poland. One of such exhibitions will be UzBuild-2013, which will be held in February 2012. The department wants to publish catalogue of Polish firms for each exhibitions

It is also planned to hold seminars and meetings “Days of Open doors” for businesses of Uzbekistan, interested in establishing contacts with Poland. In 2012, such events were organized in Andijan, Namangan, Ferghana, Samarkand and Tashkent regions. Similar events will be held in Syrdarya, Jizzakh and Kashkadarya regions in 2013.

The department also plans to hold several presentations of Polish firms and organize the meeting with their Uzbek counterparts. It is planned to organize visit of Polish firms to Uzbekistan as well.

In autumn 2013, the sixth session of Polish-Uzbek intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation will be held in Tashkent. Within the session of the commission, it is planned to hold Uzbek-Polish business forum.
