TB cases in Uzbekistan decrease by 33.2%
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Number of tuberculosis morbidity in Uzbekistan decreased by 33.2% and TB mortality fell by 60% in last several years (from 2003 to 2012), the Ministry of Healthcare of Uzbekistan said.

Efficiency of TB treatment in the world makes up 85%. In Uzbekistan, the figure makes up about 87%. This was achieved due to reforms in healthcare system of Uzbekistan, the ministry said.

The Government of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution “On additional measures on decreasing morbidity with tuberculosis in Uzbekistan in 2011-2015”, which is directed at strengthening material and technical base of medical establishments.

According to the resolution, medical establishments will be repaired and equipped with modern tools and equipment. In 2011, the national medical centers of tuberculosis and pulmonology was fully repaired.

It is worth to mention that it took 8-10 months to treat tuberculosis, now it takes in average 60 days. This was achieved due to use of modern treatment procedures.

Uzbekistan also attracted grant resources of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

From 2011, Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria allocated about US$10 million a year to implement the state programme on fighting TB (2011-2015).

It is expected that Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria will increase financing up to US$15 million a year in 2014-2015.

The State Budget of Uzbekistan also finances implementation of the state programme on fighting TB. Global Fund finances provision of medicaments to people with TB for last eight years.

From 2005, Uzbekistan provides free diagnosis and treatment for people with TB. From 2013, all patients with resistant forms of TB will be able to start treatment with expensive TB medicaments.
