Support for an inclusive transition to a green economy in the agri-food sector

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a joint training in Tashkent on “Supporting an inclusive transition to a green economy in the agri-food sector and developing a climate-smart knowledge and innovation system in agriculture in Uzbekistan ” (“EU-AGRIN”) funded by the European Union.

The main purpose of organizing this event is to develop the activities of 12 innovation groups formed in Tashkent, Fergana, Kashkadarya regions, develop projects based on scientific research and finance them.

The seminar is attended by representatives of agricultural research institutes and their regional scientific and experimental stations, Agricultural Services Centers of the Ferghana, Kashkadarya and Tashkent regions of the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture, secondary specialized educational institutions specializing in agriculture and farming.

As the national coordinator of the UNDP project Ulugbek Islamov noted, the main goal of the innovation groups is to use the opportunities in agriculture more widely and eliminate existing problems through the mutual integration of science, research, service and production systems.

It should be noted that the "Innovation Groups" develop and implement innovative projects with a scientific and practical solution aimed at adapting to climate change in agriculture and mitigating its negative consequences. This group may include representatives of dekhkan farms, agribusiness, researchers, entrepreneurs and representatives of organizations. They develop and implement projects consisting of innovative solutions and approaches aimed at overcoming various problems and shortcomings through collective research.

The event also featured presentations on the implementation of international standards in food production, topical issues of adaptation to climate change in agriculture. In particular, experts made presentations on the effective use of agricultural land based on satellite data.

"Innovation Groups" were informed about the criteria and conditions for receiving grant funds provided by the EU-AGRIN project.

Then representatives of 12 innovation groups will conduct practical exercises on the development of a project document for grant funds. Each group developed a project document, which reflected the measures to implement their direction and innovative ideas that need to be put into practice.

At the end of the event, the participants discussed the presentations of projects developed by 12 innovation groups. Opinions, additional suggestions and recommendations were offered to eliminate obstacles, problems and shortcomings that may arise during the implementation of each project.
