Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, expressed condolences to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, following the deadly explosion at the Shahid Rajaei port in Bandar Abbas.

The head of state conveyed sincere words of sympathy and support to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

According to local media, the explosion was so powerful that it was heard on the island of Kish, located more than 20 kilometers from the port.

An official representative of the Iranian government, Fatemeh Mohajerani, reported that the incident occurred at a chemical warehouse, though the cause of the explosion has not yet been determined.

According to Press TV, the tragedy resulted in 28 deaths and 1,139 injuries.
