Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Discuss Human Rights Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from the Republic of Kazakhstan arrived in Uzbekistan on 13 May to participate in the “China–Central Asia–2026” Forum on Human Rights Development, which will be held in Tashkent, the National Human Rights Centre of Uzbekistan said.

The delegation met with Akmal Saidov, Director of the National Human Rights Centre of Uzbekistan and academician.

At the beginning of the meeting, Saidov congratulated the Kazakh side on the results of its large-scale constitutional reform. In particular, he praised the modernization of the system of public administration, the transition to an updated model of representative government, and the strengthening of human rights protection mechanisms in the country’s new Constitution.

The director of the National Centre noted that in Uzbekistan’s updated Constitution, adopted in 2023, the number of provisions dedicated to human rights and freedoms has tripled. Special attention was given to strengthening the institutions of “Miranda rights” and “habeas corpus,” as well as enshrining the constitutional status of national human rights institutions.

During the talks, it was emphasized that Uzbek-Kazakh cooperation is steadily developing in the field of human rights. It was noted that stable and constructive dialogue between the leaders of the two countries serves as an important foundation for expanding bilateral cooperation. Long-standing partnership between the national human rights institutions of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan was also highly praised.

The head of the Kazakh delegation, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Alua Nadirkulova, expressed gratitude to the Uzbek side for the open and substantive dialogue. She said that the topics of the upcoming “China–Central Asia–2026” Forum are relevant and significant for Kazakhstan, particularly in the context of regional cooperation and the advancement of the human rights agenda.

The discussion also included representatives of national human rights institutions of Kazakhstan, experts, researchers, and public figures. The sides examined prospects for further deepening bilateral and regional cooperation in the field of human rights development and protection.

Special attention was given to practical initiatives aimed at expanding cooperation, including joint forums and educational programs on strengthening women’s rights, as well as Kazakhstan’s participation in the Fifth Samarkand Human Rights Forum in 2026.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides confirmed the strategic nature of the partnership between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and their shared commitment to building a unified regional cooperation space in the field of human rights in Central Asia.
