President says Gov’t to continue to support special economic zones
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan will continue to support development of free industrial-economic zones “Navoi” and “Angren”, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said at the session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.

The session summed up results of social-economic development of Uzbekistan for 2012 and approved main perspectives of economic programme for 2013.

Uzbek leader said that free industrial-economic zones “Navoi” and “Angren” currently play important role in modernization of production potential of the country.

He said that 12 enterprises were constructed and commission at free industrial-economic zones “Navoi”. They produced 80 billion soums in 2012, Uzbek leader said.

Islam Karimov underlined that seven high technological projects are under implementation at the zone. He said that they will produce accumulator wires, automobile gas cylinders, mobile and fixed telephones, modems, internet set boxes.

Uzbek leader said that taking into account experience and perspective use of production and resource potential of Tashkent region, establish sustainable economic relations with enterprises of Ferghana Valley, the decision was adopted to create special industrial zone “Angren”.

Enterprises of special industrial zone “Angren” will receive tax and customs preferences from three to seven years based on the volume of investments. He said that the enterprises will be provided with infrastructure objects and communications.

Uzbek head said that currently eight investment projects worth US$186 million will be implemented at the special industrial zone “Angren”.

He underlined that these enterprises will produce basic oils from used oil products, copper pipes of various diameters, mixers for sanitary wares, stop valve and spare parts, sanitary wares, ceramic tiles, briquette coal, sugar, and ready leather products.

Islam Karimov underlined that preparation works on 22 profitable projects are underway and their sum is US$245 million.

President said that creation of free zones is a new step in implementation of policy on further optimization of regional development and placement of high-effective production, oriented for foreign markets, introduction of modern system of logistics and transport infrastructure. He said that the government will continue to support the zones further.
