The event, which was held at the hall of General Assembly, was attended by over 1,500 official representatives of the UN, diplomatic corps, international organizations, public, cultural and academic circles of the US.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, heads of the delegations of the member states of the UN, representative of UNESCO in New York, and other attended the opening ceremony.
It was said that Navruz was included to UNESCO intangible cultural heritage in 2009 and the UN General Assembly announced 21 March as International Day of Navruz.
Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN said that Navruz is a national holiday in Uzbekistan and it is ancient and beloved national holiday. It was said that Navruz holds special place in life of people and considered as symbol of nature renewal and start of new year.
The participants of the event, who represent various nations and religion, familiarized with cultural-ethnographic programme, presented to them. Music and dances of Middle East, Southern and Central Asia were also presented to attendees.
The participants also had good chance to taste national cuisines of nations, who celebrate Navruz as a holiday.
