Nature Protection Committee organizes media tour to Khorezm region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- State Committee of Uzbekistan on nature protection, GEF Small Grants Programme in Uzbekistan, International Public Ecology and Health Fund “ECOSAN” organized an ecologic media tour to Khorezm region on 19-20 April 2013.

The event was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the State Committee of Uzbekistan on nature protection and International Earth Day.

The media tour was attended by members of Senate and MPs of Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, representatives of ministries and departments, political parties, local administration, journalists, information service of the State Committee on nature protection said.

The media tour was aimed at demonstrating current projects and the best practices of rational use of land resources in Khorezm region.

The participants of media tour participated at the press conference at Mamun Academy. It was noted that Uzbekistan pays great attention to environment and sustainable development. In April 1988, the Government of Uzbekistan create state body on control over current state and protection of environment. In 1990, the regulation on the State Committee of Uzbekistan on nature protection was adopted. In December 1992, Uzbek parliament adopted a law “On nature protection”. These two documents determine status of the State Committee of Uzbekistan on nature protection.

This year, State Committee of Uzbekistan on nature protection marks its 25th anniversary and it carries out single state policy in ecologic security, environment protection, use of natural resources, execution of legislation in nature protection, etc.

The committee pays special attention to rational use and protection of soil in Uzbekistan. Currently, Uzbekistan accrued experience in use of innovative technologies in improving soil conditions. GEF Small Grants Programme in Uzbekistan also finances several projects in this area.

Media tour participants familiarized with current ecologic projects and the best practices in rational use of land resources, visited areas in districts of Khorezm region, where these projects are implemented.

In particular, they familiarized with bio gas facilities, energy efficient greenhouses, laser land planning technology, etc.
