Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Law enforcement authorities in Uzbekistan have uncovered large shipments of illegally imported and improperly stored pharmaceutical products in the Ferghana and Namangan regions.
The operations were carried out jointly by officers of the State Security Service, customs authorities, and other relevant agencies, according to official reports.
In Ferghana, officers of the regional State Security Service, together with customs officials, stopped the illegal circulation of medicines. Authorities said a Ferghana resident, born in 1987, was detained while unloading a shipment of pharmaceuticals delivered by a “Gazelle” vehicle at his home.
During the inspection, 45,960 units of medicines across 38 types were discovered, with a total estimated value of 778 million soums. In addition, another 16,535 units of 25 types of medicines, worth 468 million soums, were found stored at the residence in violation of established regulations.
Procedural documentation has been completed in connection with the case.
A similar operation was conducted in the Namangan region with the participation of the regional State Security Service, the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, customs authorities, and the Center for Pharmaceutical Safety.
According to authorities, two Namangan residents, born in 1995 and 1993, stored large quantities of foreign-made pharmaceutical products in residential and non-residential premises in the Davlatabad district. The medicines were allegedly illegally imported into the country for further sale.
