KOICA and Uzkimyosanoat hold a kick-off meeting withing a new project for strengthening the competitiveness of Uzbekistan chemical industry

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 24 August 2022, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Uzkimyosanoat JSC held a kick-off meeting with the newly signed joint “Project for Capacity Building of the Center of Chemical Technology (UzCCT)” which will be implemented over the next five years with a grant-aid of the Republic of Korea in the amount of 7.0mln USD. 

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Uzkimyosanoat JSC E.A.Korzhikov, Deputy Director of KOICA Office in Uzbekistan Park Hye Jeong and a delegation of Korean experts dispatched for implementing project activities from leading Korean organizations in chemical sphere, such as Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) headed by KRICT Vice President Choi Won Choon, experts of Hyundai Asan company, Chonnam National University and Hanbat National University (South Korea).

During the visit the Korean experts jointly with the specialists of Uzkimyosanoat JSC will discuss and coordinate the implementation plan for KOICA project’s each direction, including: 

- Establishment of Master Plan for research and operation of Uzbekistan Center of Chemical Technology, 

- Establishment of implementation plan for master’s and doctoral degree programs, within which the Uzbekistan specialists in chemistry field will undergo capacity building trainings, both in the Republic of Korea and locally,

- Promote joint research between Korea and Uzbekistan, and accumulate know-how on the laboratory-level R&D process, focusing on the necessary fields for the development of the Uzbekistan chemical industry.

The project is intended to nurture the capabilities of high-level human resources in chemistry field and thus strengthen the national competitiveness of Uzbekistan chemical industry.

Following the meeting the Korean delegation visited the territory of the scientific and chemical cluster in the Ulugbek settlement, where the project site for the construction of Uzbek-Korean scientific Center of Chemical Technology is located among other planned administrative and educational buildings, laboratories, housing for scientists, a hostel, an amphitheater, a park and a solar power plant.
