Four children die after electric cycle falls into canal in Samarkand region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Four children have died in a tragic accident after an electric cycle fell into a canal in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand region, Kun.uz reported.
The incident occurred on 31 May in the “Ukrache” mahalla of Paxtachi district.
According to preliminary reports, a 42-year-old man placed children on a recently purchased electric cycle to take them for a ride. Due to an unsafe manoeuvre, the vehicle fell into the Narpay canal.
Witnesses said a total of eight people were on the vehicle at the time — the driver, his wife, their three children, and three children from neighbouring families. It is reported that while driving along the canal, the driver mistakenly reversed the vehicle, after which it fell into the water.
As a result of the incident, four children aged 3, 6, 9 and 10 died. Local residents searched for the victims overnight, recovering three bodies on the same day and the fourth the following morning.
Two of the deceased were the driver’s children and two were children of neighbours.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident.
