Barometer of economic activity in regions

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Experts of Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research (IPMI) announced the results of the economic activity barometer (BEA) in the regions of Uzbekistan.

The BEA evaluates economic activity in a region over a given period and opens up the possibility of taking action to reverse the decline in activity and increase competition between regions. The BEA index was calculated using 12 indicators divided into 3 components (production, entrepreneurship, foreign economic activity).

According to the results of the analysis, in the first half of 2022, high rates of economic activity were observed in Andijan, Jizzakh, Samarkand regions and the city of Tashkent (BEA = 0.569-0.678). This, in turn, was positively affected by the accelerated growth in the production of consumer goods (growth rates > 140.0%), exports of goods and services (growth rates > 160%) and imports (growth rates > 117%) in Andijan and Jizzakh regions, which had a positive impact on production and foreign trade activity, as well as on BEA. As a result, Andijan (from 12 places to 1 place) and Jizzakh (from 9 places to 2 places) regions managed to improve their positions compared to other regions.

The high level of BEA in Samarkand region (3rd place) is observed as a result of the development of entrepreneurial activity (effective activity of small businesses) and export potential (food, tourism services) in this region.

In general, during the reporting period, 6 regions (Andijan, Jizzakh, Navoi, Fergana, Khorezm, Samarkand regions) improved their economic activity, while entrepreneurship is the main factor in economic development (as a result of creating and stimulating the activities of small businesses, the index of entrepreneurial activity amounted to 0.588- 0.650).
