Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Organizational and agrotechnical measures are currently being taken in Uzbekistan to create a stock of seed potatoes for next year’s harvest. For this, special working groups were formed with the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

To create a seed fund of early-ripening and late-ripening potatoes for the 2023 harvest, it is important to systematically collect the crop this year. Store it in refrigerated, simple warehouses and warehouses of farms. It is also necessary to protect the seeds from diseases and pests.

For the harvest of 2023, 30.4 thousand farms and agricultural enterprises planted potatoes on 106 thousand hectares of the main areas of the country.

It is estimated that these main areas will require 267 thousand tons of seeds, of which this year the country is planning to harvest 289 thousand tons (an additional 22 thousand tons) of seed potatoes.

As of 5 August, 43.6 thousand tons or 15% of seed potatoes have been accumulated. Of these, 11.7 thousand tons are stored in refrigerated warehouses and 31.9 thousand tons in ordinary warehouses.
