Uzbekistan's results in implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in 2015-2022

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Experts from the Institute of Macroeconomic and Regional Research (IMRI) analyzed the results of Uzbekistan in 2015-2022 according to the UN sustainable development goals.

It should be noted that Uzbekistan has achieved good results on a number of indicators of the National Sustainable Development Goals. In the Inter-country ranking of the Sustainable Development Goals published by the UN (SDG) in 2023, Uzbekistan took 69th place among 166 countries, increasing its ranking by 8 steps (77th place in 2022).

According to the SDG Index report, Uzbekistan recorded a positive increase in sustainable development indicators for the following 11 out of 16 goals: poverty reduction (Goal 1), food security and nutrition (Goal 2), health and well-being (Goal 3), gender equality (Goal 5), quality education (Goal 4), clean water and sanitation (Goal 6), industrialization, innovation and infrastructure (Goal 9), sustainable development of cities and human settlements (Goal 11), climate action (Goal 13), peace, justice and strong institutions (Goal 16).

The first and second Voluntary National Reviews on the implementation of national goals and objectives for sustainable development of Uzbekistan until 2023, prepared in 2020 and 2023, were positively assessed by the UN.

So, let's look at the measures taken to significantly reduce poverty in Uzbekistan and their results. To fulfill this goal, the necessary legislative, institutional and economic mechanisms to combat poverty were formulated. Below are some results of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of Uzbekistan under Goal No. 1:

As part of this goal, the poverty level in the country decreased from 30.4 percent to 14.1 percent, that is, by 2 times, in 2015-2022.

The coverage of the population receiving social benefits increased during this period from 0.8% to 1.7%.

At the same time, according to the international poverty line, this figure for Uzbekistan reached the target of $2.15 per day. Also, the value of this indicator decreased from 19.74 percent to approximately 7.4 percent.

The share of the population receiving old-age pensions has increased from 7.2% to 8.7%.

According to the 2023 National Survey, the proportion of the population living in supportive housing increased from 43.1% to 86.5% during this period.
