Uzbekistan to ban the import, sale and production of plastic in protected areas

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Ecology and Environmental Protection submitted for consideration a draft document on a ban on the import, sale and production of disposable plastic products (except for products made from natural organic polymers) in territories intended for nature protection, health improvement and recreation, as well as in areas where objects of tangible cultural heritage are located.

This is envisaged by the law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Documents of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”

According to the law, for such a violation, from 2 to 5 sizes of basic estimated value (from 660 thousand soums to 1 million 650 thousand soums) can be imposed on citizens, and on officials - from 5 to 10 sizes of basic estimated value (from 1 million 650 thousand to 3 million 300 thousand soums).

In case of repeated violation, citizens will be fined 10-15 sizes of basic estimated value (from 3 million 300 thousand to 4 million 950 thousand soums), and officials from 15 to 20 sizes of basic estimated value (from 4 million 950 thousand to 6 million 600 thousand soums).

Citizens who have committed an offense on a large scale will be fined 20-25 sizes of basic estimated value (from 6 million 600 thousand to 8 million 250 thousand soums), and officials - from 25 to 30 sizes of basic estimated value (from 8 million 250 thousand to 9 million 900 thousand soums).

The law is planned to come into force on 1 July 2026. The goal is to reduce the harmful effects of waste on the environment, land, water and air, and to maintain a clean environment.
