Uzbekistan Seizes 24 kg Drug Smuggling Attempt
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Authorities in Uzbekistan have prevented an attempt to illegally import a large consignment of narcotic substances from a neighboring country. The operation was conducted by officers of the State Security Service in cooperation with internal affairs bodies and customs authorities as part of ongoing anti-drug crime measures.
During operational and investigative activities, law enforcement identified and detained a 1973-born resident of Margilan, previously convicted for drug-related offenses. He was apprehended in the act while receiving a shipment of hashish weighing 24 kilograms and 475 grams.
According to the investigation, the narcotic substance had been concealed and transported into Uzbekistan by accomplices from Kyrgyzstan and hidden in a cache located in the Khojaabad district.
A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee under relevant articles of the Criminal Code, including smuggling and illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. He has been placed in custody as a preventive measure.
Law enforcement agencies are continuing investigative actions to identify all individuals involved in the criminal scheme.
