Uzbekistan may introduce driver’s licenses for driving electric scooters

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan proposes to introduce a driver’s license to drive electric scooters. This is proposed by the draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers on regulating the movement of electric scooters, scooters, motor scooters and other individual vehicles.

According to the document, from 1 January 2024, motor vehicles with an engine capacity of more than 25 cubic centimeters or a design speed of 25 km/h or more, as well as an electric motor with a power of 0.25 kW and a maximum speed of over 25 km/h will undergo state registration.

Persons over 14 years of age who have received a license of the appropriate category and have registered the vehicle will be allowed to drive these vehicles.

It is prohibited to drive these vehicles while intoxicated and to use a telephone while driving.

The maximum speed of electric scooters on sidewalks, pedestrian or bicycle paths is proposed to be limited to no higher than 6 km per hour. If they are absent, driving on the right edge of the road is allowed at a speed of no more than 20 km per hour.
