Uzbekistan holds ninth place in Save the Children index
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan claimed the ninth place in the Save the Children Health Worker Index, which was published recently.

The index measures how many health workers in the country, as well as their reach and impact. It factors in the proportion of children who receive regular vaccinations and mothers who have access to life-saving emergency care at birth. In developed countries, almost all children and mothers are reached with these basic services.

Uzbekistan is on the ninth place in the index with 0.833. Uzbekistan was placed higher than Germany (10th place), Russia (11), Great Britain (14), United States (15) and Kazakhstan (16).

Kyrgyz Republic is on the 42nd place in the index, Turkmenistan – 44th place and Tajikistan – 65th place. Switzerland, Finland and Ireland claimed top three places. Laos, Somali and Chad were at the bottom of the index. Overall, some 161 countries were included to the index.

The World Health Organization says a minimum threshold of 23 such health workers are needed for every 10,000 people in order to deliver essential maternal and child health services.
