Uzbekistan completes negotiations on WTO accession with three countries

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is completing negotiations on the country’s entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) with Georgia, Mongolia and Turkiye. This was announced by the Deputy Head of the Department for Cooperation with the WTO of the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade Amirbek Mukhamedov.

He noted that 47 countries are included in the working group on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO.

According to him, the working group on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO includes 47 countries in total. All these countries have expressed a desire to negotiate market access for goods and services.

Amirbek Mukhamedov added that Uzbekistan is actively negotiating with 31 countries. At the same time, Uzbekistan is completing negotiations with Georgia, Mongolia and Turkiye.

Uzbekistan and Georgia in early April 2023 signed a protocol on the completion of bilateral negotiations on access to the market for goods and services as part of accession to the WTO. The document was signed within the framework of the 9th meeting of the Uzbek-Georgian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation in Tashkent.

Georgia became the first country with which Uzbekistan completed negotiations on the issue of joining the WTO.

The representative of the MIPT noted that negotiations are currently underway on a trade regime and obligations.

Amirbek Mukhamedov noted that it is difficult to name the exact date of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO. Uzbekistan needs to negotiate with each WTO member.
