Uzbekistan Begins Construction of New Electrified Railway Line

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has officially launched construction of a new electrified railway line connecting Nurofshan, Pskent, Bekabad, Boyovut, and Yangiyer in the Tashkent region.

The project is aimed at strengthening transport connectivity between the Tashkent and Syrdarya regions and developing interregional infrastructure, according to a statement from Uzbekistan’s official sources.

A ceremony marking the start of construction was attended by Tashkent region governor Zoir Mirzaev, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Railways Zufar Narzullayev, representatives of relevant agencies, engineers, and railway sector staff. During the event, officials presented the main technical and economic parameters of the project and discussed its expected impact on regional development.

The new railway line will have a total length of 111 kilometers and will be fully electrified. It is planned to accommodate both passenger and freight transport, including the operation of high-speed electric trains supported by modern infrastructure.

Construction work will involve significant earthworks of around 7.8 million cubic meters. The project also includes the construction of a traction substation, three railway stations, one stopping point, 15 bridges, 14 overpasses, and other engineering structures.

Authorities say the initiative is expected to accelerate economic development in the regions along the route by creating new jobs, expanding business and service opportunities, and improving transport accessibility and tourism potential.

During the ceremony, a traditional sacrificial ritual was held, and participants offered prayers for the country’s prosperity and the successful implementation of the project.
