The sides exchanged views on the situation and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the political, commercial and economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. Special attention was paid to the to international issues of mutual interest, including situation in Afghanistan, prospects of cooperation within OSCE in combating terrorism, and also cooperation within the United Nations and international organizations, the same source said.
The presentation of the commercial and economic and investment potential of Uzbekistan took place during the stay of Uzbek delegation in Australia. Prospective projects on creation of joint ventures in the mining and chemical industry, agriculture and other spheres were presented to the attention of business circles of this country.
Leading tourism companies of Australia get familiarized with the tourism potential of Uzbekistan. The sides reached an agreement to strengthen inter-bank co-operation, exchange of the cultural and educational missions of the two countries.
Australia recognized the independence of Uzbekistan and established diplomatic relations in December 1991. Political contacts are established through the embassy of Australia in the Russian Federation.
