Uzbekistan and Japan Hold Parliamentary Forum in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the fifth meeting of the Uzbekistan–Japan parliamentary forum was held during the visit of a Japanese delegation led by Arfiya Eri, a member of Japan’s House of Representatives and parliamentary deputy foreign minister.
During the event, representatives of both countries presented reports on the current state and prospects of inter-parliamentary cooperation. The discussions focused on the development of political dialogue, parliamentary oversight of the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level, and the expansion of cooperation and exchange of experience in lawmaking.
Participants noted that, thanks to the efforts of the leaders of both countries, political dialogue between Uzbekistan and Japan has developed in a stable and consistent manner, while bilateral cooperation has reached a qualitatively new level.
It was emphasized that the agreements reached are being effectively implemented and that inter-parliamentary ties are productive in nature.
Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber R. Khakimov briefed the Japanese delegation on the large-scale reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan under the leadership of the country’s president.
Arfiya Eri expressed gratitude for the high level of organization of the forum and gave a positive assessment of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy as well as ongoing reforms and their outcomes. She stressed that relations between the two countries have deep historical roots and expressed readiness to contribute to their further development.
Keisuke Suzuki, Chair of the Executive Committee of the League of Friendship with Uzbekistan in the Japanese parliament, stated that Japan considers Uzbekistan a strategic partner in Central Asia and is interested in further expanding cooperation. He noted that bilateral relations have reached a new qualitative level.
During the session, the sides discussed proposals to expand trade and economic ties, develop green energy and education, and strengthen cooperation in information technology, entrepreneurship, and artificial intelligence.
Following the forum, both sides agreed to continue systematic inter-parliamentary dialogue aimed at strengthening political trust and further developing the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Japan.
