Economy 28/07/2009 Uzbek regions sum up 1H results

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Regions of Uzbekistan held meetings to sum up the results of the first half of 2009.

Gross regional product (GRP) of Bukhara region grew by 4.9% in January-June 2009 and industrial output increased by 1.4 times.

The region’s agriculture production rose by 5% and construction works grew by 14.5%. Retail trade of Bukhara region increased by 13.7% in the reporting period, while service jumped by 9%.

During the reporting period, Bukhara region attracted investments for 1.1 trillion soums, of which 880.6 billion soums were foreign direct investments.

Surkhandarya region’s economy grew by 9.1% year-on-year in January-June 2009. Industrial output increased by 6.6% and services rose by 4.2%. Deposits of the population at the commercial banks grew by 24.1%.

The region used investments for 191 billion soums on 44 projects. About 10 enterprises commissioned within the investment programme.

Economy of Jizzakh region rose by 8.7% in the reporting period. Industrial output increased by 4.7% and agriculture output - 4.5%. Retail trade turnover rose by 6.4%. Services grew by 43.5% in the region.

Karakalpakstan’s GRP grew by 6.3% year-on-year in January-June 2009. Business entities produced goods for 415.6 billion soums. Production of industrial products rose by 7.2% and consumer goods increased by 10.5%.

Retail trade turnover in Karakalpakstan increased by 13.1% and service rose by 13%. Karakalpakstan attracted investments for 383.5 billion soums in the reporting period.
