Uzbek Citizen Dies in Construction Accident in Ulan-Ude

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An Uzbek citizen was killed and another seriously injured after falling from the seventh floor of a residential building under construction in the Russian city of Ulan-Ude, Republic of Buryatia, on 8 May 2026, the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Novosibirsk said.

According to the diplomatic mission, the accident occurred after a tower crane operator accidentally damaged construction scaffolding. At the time of the incident, two Uzbek citizens were on the structure without safety harnesses and fell from the height.

One of the victims was hospitalized with serious injuries, while the second citizen died as a result of the fall.

Russian law enforcement authorities opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 217 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The Consulate General of Uzbekistan, together with the representative office of the Migration Agency in Novosibirsk, is arranging the repatriation of the deceased citizen’s body to Uzbekistan.

The diplomatic mission said it is maintaining постоянное interaction with law enforcement agencies in Buryatia and that the situation remains under special monitoring.
