Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Representatives from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan took part in the work of the School of Young Seismologists of the CIS in Tashkent. This was reported by the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The main theme of the School’s work this year is formulated as follows: “Modern methods of processing and interpreting seismological data.”

Young scientists became familiar with the principles of various types of seismic source detection and their analysis. The participants studied unique experience and modern approaches to assessing seismic hazard in seismically active mountainous areas and predicting earthquakes.

In addition, the participants attended practical classes on the selection of equations for damping seismic vibrations and got acquainted with the work of the oldest seismic station in Central Asia (Tashkent Seismological Observatory and Yangibazar Geophysical Observatory)

“This is the first time such an event is being held in our country. Young scientists give their reports, exchange knowledge and experience with foreign colleagues. Such interaction will help them expand their knowledge in this field and become qualified specialists,” noted Zukhriddin Shukurov, senior researcher at the Institute of Seismology named after G. O. Mavlonov of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.

The organizers of the event are the Institute of Seismology of the Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Sciences, the Republican Center for Seismic Forecasting Monitoring of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan, as well as the Federal Research Center "Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences", the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS Member States.
