Regional Huawei meeting takes in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – In an effort to transform Uzbekistan into an IT hub, the country is expanding its efforts to host regional events for international organizations such as Huawei.

Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov participated in Huawei’s semi-annual regional meeting for the Middle East and Central Asia held in Tashkent. The meeting brought together executives and managing managers from more than 20 company branches.

At the meeting, the Minister welcomed the decision to hold the annual event in Uzbekistan, citing the country’s rapid digital development, its growing position as a regional leader in creating favorable conditions for international IT businesses, and strengthening Uzbekistan’s brand as a host country for major international ICT events.

"I am pleased to welcome Huawei’s regional leaders to Tashkent this year, considering the 25-year history of cooperation in Uzbekistan.

The company’s contribution to the development of the ICT sector, digital transformation, and workforce training is crucial for the implementation of our ‘Digital Uzbekistan 2030’ strategy and the transformation of Uzbekistan into a regional IT hub. The Republic has created all the conditions for the development of international IT business, the establishment of their outsourcing offices (BPO) to support the company’s operations worldwide, and the hosting of regional and global events," noted Sherzod Shermatov.

During the meeting, Huawei leaders were introduced to the "Zero Risk" program for residents of IT Park Uzbekistan, the benefits residents receive for conducting their activities in Uzbekistan, and plans to further attract international business to the country.

Additionally, opportunities to expand the activities of one of Huawei’s five global resource centers operating in Uzbekistan were highlighted. By transferring project development for the Middle East and Central Asia region to the Tashkent office, the center will be able to increase its staff, open more opportunities for the growth of Uzbekistan’s IT service exports, and strengthen the country’s position as a center for IT industry development in the region.

In August, with the support of the Ministry of Digital Technologies, Tashkent will host Huawei’s flagship educational project "Seeds for the Future 2024," bringing together more than 150 students from Middle Eastern and Central Asian countries.
