Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Central Asian region has no choice but to expand regional cooperation. This was stated by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, speaking at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on 19 September. Transforming Central Asia into a peaceful and prosperous region will remain a priority goal of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy.

The head of Uzbekistan noted that in recent years, Central Asia has been moving along the path of strengthening good neighborliness, stability, cooperation and development.

“Thanks to our joint efforts, Uzbekistan and all neighboring countries managed to solve many problems related to state borders, transport corridors and water use,” he noted.

Mutual trade between the countries of the region has grown two and a half times, and the number of joint ventures has increased five times, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

“Our region is becoming a center of economic development, a transport and communication bridge connecting East and West, North and South. And interest in it is growing,” the President emphasized.

According to Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the openness of Central Asia to the whole world is becoming the most important condition for ensuring the security and sustainable development of the region.

“We can say with confidence that our peoples are united by an awareness of regional identity, and this feeling is becoming increasingly stronger. We not only have one past, but also a common future, coinciding vital interests. We have no other choice but to expand regional cooperation!” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The head of Uzbekistan expressed confidence that with the support of the international community, Central Asia will continue to follow the path of consolidation. Transforming Central Asia into a peaceful and prosperous region will remain a priority goal of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy.
