Uzbekistan 18/07/2008 President of Uzbekistan visits Kagan district of Bukhara region
The government commission is currently working on the place of the incident to stabilize the situation, ensure necessary security measures and provide help to the injured. The commission includes heads of the government, National security service, General prosecutor’s office, ministries of defense, emergency situations and interior, as well as other structures.

Heads of the corresponding ministries and departments made reports at the meeting on the activities related to identification of the causes of the incident and liquidation of its consequences.

The meeting participants also considered issues of security of the servicemen working on the territory, providing material and moral help to the residents of the neighboring areas, which were temporarily moved to a safe area, and medical aid to the injured.

Analyzing the work carried out in the district, President Islam Karimov stressed that all measures had to be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The main cause behind the incident is that the ammunition depot, built in the soviet times, had not complied with the requirements to such objects, it has been said at the meeting. The Defense ministry had not attached the needed attention and responsibility to the state of the ammunition depot, according to the commission.

"The General prosecutor’s office and related bodies are currently investigating the causes of the incident in Kagan district and estimating the damage," the head of the state said. "The conclusions of the commission will be made public. Our goal is to find the truth and take all required measures to prevent similar extraordinary situations."

President Islam Karimov visited the helicopter unit of the Defense ministry. He got acquainted with the conditions for the servicemen there. While talking to the military personnel, the head of the state asked them about their service and families.

"We have to fully implement the principle ’Reforms for the people’ regarding the servicemen and create all necessary conditions for their service and recreation. Our state has the funds and potential for this," Islam Karimov said.
